Submersible pump 'used to clear up flooding in Norfolk'

The usefulness of submersible pump hire has been highlighted following the work of firefighters in Norfolk.

As heavy rain hit the region last weekend (February 27th and 28th 2010), firefighters had to deal with a series of call-outs related to the weather.

A submersible pump was used by emergency services workers in the county to help clear water from a home in Gaywood which was being threatened as water up to 18 inches deep began to enter the home after building up in the garden.

In a separate incident, another submersible pump was used to remove water from the front room of a property in Castle Acre, reports Lynn News.

A spokesman for Anglian Water said problems had been caused by drains being overwhelmed by the downpour.

Earlier this week, a local fireman told the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press that several homes had suffered from flooding in the region.

"We were been called out at least four times and had to use pumps to get rid of the water," he stated.
