Drainage pumps to be used in Cornish reservoir project

Drainage pumps looks set to be hired once work is completed on the transformation of a former quarry into a reservoir in Cornwall.

Southwest Water has bought Stannon Lake with the intention of increasing its water resources in the county.

Work began this week (March 8th 2010) on transforming the facility and is expected to be finished by the middle of the year.

In order to make the site operational, two shore-based drainage pumps will be used to transfer water to treatment plants.

Nol Vincent, manager of the project, said: "The development of Stannon Lake gives us significant extra reserves, without the cost and disruption involved in building a new reservoir - a process which can take 20 years."

Earlier this month, This is Somerset reported that Glastonbury Town Football Club are also seeking to purchase or hire a new drainage pump.

Their ground has been unplayable since floods in November could not be cleared following the failure of its existing drainage pump.
