UK on flood warning alert

There may be a surge in temporary dewatering pump hire after flood warnings were issued for the UK.

The Environment Agency teamed with the Met Office to inform the public that heavy downpours on Wednesday (July 21st) could result in localised flooding across many parts of the country.

Overflowing drains that are unable to cope with the deluge could lead to surface water accumulating on roads and fields, a statement from the organisation remarked.

However, there was little concern about rivers flooding as it is believed they should have capacity for the amount of rainfall predicted.

Craig Woolhouse, head of flood incident management at the Environment Agency, said: "We continue to monitor the situation closely and advise emergency services and urge the public in these areas to remain vigilant."

The rains may be welcomed in the north-west, where many regions are currently under a hosepipe ban due to reservoirs being well below normal levels.

A recent report in the Lincolnshire Echo stated how a flood management project in Gainsborough has been nominated for the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award.ADNFCR-3039-ID-19903838-ADNFCR
