Dredging work to deepen Jersey harbour

Dredging work has been planned as part of a 1.2 million project to stabilise St Aubin Harbour in Jersey.

The States of Jersey website announced that the north and south piers along with a section of breakwater at St Aubin's Fort are in danger of collapse.

Dredge pump hire may be required as there are also plans to deepen the harbour during the 45-week development.

Jersey Harbours' Technical Services Manager, Ray Hine, said: "Once the works are complete careful dredging will be undertaken to achieve the optimum depth of water in the harbour."

Work will begin in August to anchor the structures in to the bedrock of the seabed.

The area will be temporarily closed to the public while works are carried out on the two piers which date from the 1760s.

Elsewhere, it was recently reported in the Bolton News, that the city's Queens Park is to undergo an extensive amount of dredging work as part of a 7.3 million project to refurbish its four lakes.ADNFCR-3039-ID-19911612-ADNFCR
