Climate change to lead to more flood management schemes?

More flood management schemes may need to be implemented across the UK in preparation for the increase in flooding one commentator has warned the country is set to see.

Nick Starling, director of general insurance and health at the Association of British Insurers, explained that houses built in areas that are at risk will be the worst hit, the Guardian reports.

"Flood risk is the main catastrophic risk in the UK and we know that climate change will bring increased flood risk to the UK," he remarked.

Some planning permission decisions should not have been passed as they are on known flood plains, Mr Starling stated, adding they make a number of homes across Britain uninsurable.

The publication noted that the Environment Agency estimates one in six properties in England and Wales are at risk of flooding due to rising sea levels.

In a separate report, the paper told of how Yorkshire recently experienced the effects of severe weather when heavy downpours caused flash flooding across parts of the region.ADNFCR-3039-ID-19913117-ADNFCR
